Objects outlive the circumstances that made them. Yet an object never explains itself completely. It asks us to study its origin, its use, its movement, and the institutions that preserved or excluded it.
The Montague Collection approaches the archive as evidence and invitation: a place to encounter material history, examine inherited narratives, and ask what a record can—and cannot—tell us.
As exhibition archives and object records are published, essays here will connect visual culture, archival research, and contemporary inquiry. Interpretations will be distinguished from established findings and linked to sources wherever possible.
